Richard Beasley
Principal Consultant & Trainer
B.Sc. (Physics), M.Sc. (Gas Turbine Engineering), CEng, ESEP

Richard Beasley is a highly accomplished systems engineering expert with over 37 years of experience, including a distinguished career at Rolls-Royce, where he was recognized as an Associate Fellow in Systems Engineering. Throughout his tenure, Richard played a pivotal role in embedding and implementing systems engineering best practices across the organization, ensuring a structured and efficient approach to complex product development.
A strong advocate for systems thinking and engineering transformation, Richard specializes in embedding systems engineering into organizations to improve engineering processes, reduce rework, and increase project success rates. His expertise spans gas turbines, aerospace systems, engineering management, and systems architecture, with a focus on practical applications of systems engineering methodologies to enhance product lifecycle efficiency.
Richard has an extensive body of published work, with over 40 papers and articles covering a range of topics, from embedding systems engineering into organizations to systems thinking and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to derive requirements and develop systems architecture development. His work also explores the integration of requirements engineering, decision-making frameworks, and the role of digital tools in modern engineering environments of the main themes in his publications:
- “Embedding Systems Engineering into an Organization” – Examining the best practices for making systems engineering a core business function and working with Program / Risk Management disciplines, aligning with PPI’s Systems Engineering Management course.
- “The Challenges of Systems Modelling and Thinking” – Discussion of the application and use of Systems Thinking and MBSE.
- “Requirements Engineering – Avoiding Pitfalls in Large Projects” – A discussion on common challenges in requirements development and management, linking the range of engineering data that ties directly to PPI’s Requirements Analysis & Specification Writing course.
Richard has been an active leader within INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering), serving as President of INCOSE UK (2014-2016), Director of Services for INCOSE (2022-2024), and currently as Chair of the INCOSE Working Group on Embedding Systems Engineering into Organizations. In this role, he leads initiatives to help organizations integrate systems engineering into their operations, fostering best practices that enhance engineering effectiveness and business outcomes.
He holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Gas Turbine Engineering from Cranfield University and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics from Bristol University. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and an INCOSE Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP), reflecting his depth of knowledge and professional standing in the field.
Richard has joined Project Performance International (PPI) as a Principal Consultant & Course Presenter, and through PPI its subsidiary company Certification Training International (CTI), where he brings his extensive experience to help professionals and organizations master systems engineering principles and methodologies. Widely regarded as a relentless advocate of systems engineering practices, Richard is dedicated to helping businesses and engineers understand, apply, and benefit from structured engineering approaches to increase the value delivered from engineering and project activities.
