ASEC, the United Kingdom’s leading Systems Engineering conference, had a theme this year of ‘Building Towards a Brighter Future’. PPI was represented by Business Development Manager and Senior Engineer, René King, as well as Principal Consultant and Course Presenter, Paul Davies. They share their highlights and reflections on the event below.
“INCOSE UK took place at Crowne Plaza Newcastle over 22 and 23 November 2022. The event had over 200 in-person attendees and exhibited the vibrant energy synonymous with INCOSE UK Chapter Events. Highlights of the program included a focus on sustainable engineering with plenary sessions on Zero Emissions Flight Infrastructure, Systems Modelling for Sustainable Development, and an additional session by the Energy Systems Interest Group. Given the extreme weather events we are experiencing globally and the effects of strained resources due to sustained conflicts and subsequent logistics complications, it was highly refreshing and encouraging to see a significant focus on this area within the program. In addition to observing a solid emphasis on sustainability, there were several plenary sessions and tutorials geared to advancing core systems engineering, such as Stakeholder Needs Driven Systems Development, Analysing Services and Service Systems, Managing the Longest System Lifecycle, Systems Thinking Awareness, and much more. These sessions provided ample opportunities for sharing techniques and approaches to uplift the skills and capabilities of attendees.
The conference highlighted that INCOSE UK has exciting plans for increasing its impact within the systems engineering community in the UK and is investing significantly in establishing sound systems engineering approaches in high school and university programs throughout the UK. In addition, INCOSE UK provides many opportunities for graduate engineers to develop their careers and find work opportunities that will bolster their professional development.
For many years, PPI has been honoured to sponsor and exhibit at the INCOSE ASEC conference. Expect more updates regarding PPI and its involvement in INCOSE UK very soon.
PPI subsidiary Certification Training International (CTI) was pleased to sponsor the After Dinner Speaker this year at the Event Dinner. CTI looks forward to increasing its participation in this prestigious event for years to come.”

“The best paper award rightly went to Stuart Jobbins, for his analysis of when to use, and when not to use, agile approaches in complex systems – examining the hype based on documented cases. Other highly-regarded presentations included a couple addressing digital twins, and one extracting useful information about the complexity and integrity of a system design from mathematical analysis of its SysML structural and behavioural models. All in all, the UK Chapter is thriving and providing fresh, thought-provoking ideas on topics that are very much the leading edge of systems engineering.”
